2,520 years and Israel’s regathering


It is time to get back to basics. The beginning ideas that launched Signs of the End was the discovery of multiple timelines of 2,520 years between historical events of the Babylonian Captivity and the return of modern Israel. These events lay the groundwork to determine the nearness of the time of the end of this age. Some of these timelines are known and some have been seemingly lost in the shuffle, but they are all proving important as history moves forward.

The first timeline was made famous by Grant Jeffrey over twenty years ago in, Armageddon: Appointment with Destiny. Jeffrey was not the discoverer but presented the timeline of 2,520 360-day years running from the time (537 BC) Israel returned to the land from Babylon until the time Israel became a nation in 1948. Using a 360-day year was consistent with other uses of 360-day years, such as Daniel’s 70 weeks. To derive the 2,520 years, Ezekiel’s days of 390 and 40 for each House of Israel (Ezekiel 4) were added (each day for a year) with that resulting number of 430 years being lessened to 360 years due to the 70 year Captivity. Since not all of the Jews returned, the remaining balance of 360 years was multiplied by seven (Leviticus 26:23-24) to end up with 2,520 years. The fact that 2,520 360-day years occurred between the returns of Israel was simply mind blowing.

The second timeline was then published by Hal Lindsey and Chuck Missler shortly thereafter. The first timeline was also presented, but the second timeline dealt with another period of the Babylonian period. This is because there were two periods of 70 years. The first period of seventy years spanned from 606 BC until 537 BC, known as the Babylonian Captivity. The second period of 70 years came 19 years later from 587 BC until 518 BC, which was known as the period of Jerusalem’s Desolations. On the 9th of Av 587 BC, the Temple was destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar. Seventy years later reconstruction began. Hal and Chuck’s timeline then spanned 2,520 360-day years from the time Jerusalem’s desolations ended until Israel won Jerusalem in 1967’s Six-Day-War. The parallel was equally clear and equally mind-blowing, yet again.

This then was the extent of the known 2,520 year timelines until the writing of Signs of the End.

In the order of their discovery, the next timeline discovered was from the beginning of the 70 year Babylonian Captivity in 606 BC until the year 1914. This timeline had been first used by Charles Russell the founder of Jehovah’s Witnesses. The year 1914 was suppose to be the year, according to him, that Christ would return, but he did not. However, there was an event in 1914 that should have been understood as very important. On the 9th of Av 1914 (August 1), World War I started with Russia and Germany declaring war. This began the plurality of nations joining the war to become known as World War I. This timing is significant in another way in that Jesus said in the Olivet Discourse that there would be wars and rumors of war, but that the end was not until nation rose against nation and kingdom against kingdom–world war. Therefore, along with 1948 and 1967, the year of 1914 was also significant. However, to arrive at 1914, the 2,520 years were figured as solar years without the adjustment to 360-day years. With this understanding the next timeline was discovered.

The next timeline was found to begin from the other start point of the 70 year period of Jerusalem’s desolations. From the time the Temple was destroyed in 587 BC, the 2,520th year from that time came to 1933. Germany in 1933 elected Adolph Hitler, who would quickly transform into a dictator. On none other than Passover of 1933, the first laws defining who a Jew was were passed, and so the persecution began. So 2,520 years once again was found between significant events concerning the Jewish people. But there was more to be found.

The last two timelines discussed consisted of 2,520 solar years. However, converting those periods of years into 360-day years, two other years then came into view. Those years were 1878 and 1897. So it was 2,520 360-day years from 606 BC until 1878, and it was 2,520 360-day years from 587 BC until 1897. In 1878 the first Jewish settlement was founded at Petah Tikva (“Door of Hope” and became the success story for Israeli farming. In 1897, the first Zionist Congress met in Basle, Switzerland in a call for a Jewish homeland in Israel. Therefore, two groundbreaking events associated with the call to return to Israel came at 2,520 360-day years. These then form a parallel with the other timelines of 2,520 360-day years. Therefore, 70 years after Petah Tikva, Israel became a nation in 1948. Then 70 years after the first Zionist Congress in 1897, Jerusalem was obtained by the Jews in 1967’s Six-Day-War. Coincidence is not a Kosher word, but neither should it be overlooked, as has happened. All of these years and events then, should be considered seriously as to what they portend.



Figuring the number 2,520

The first figuring of 2,520 years was using the method by Grant Jeffrey and others. That was taking the 390 and 40 days of Ezekiel 4 and totaling them to 430 days, and with each day for a year. Subtracting the 70 years of the Captivity and/or Desolations left 360 years, which if multiplied by seven (Leviticus 26) equals 2,520 years for not fully repenting and returning to the Land.

However, there seems to be another application of this passage from Ezekiel 4 that is contemporary to the time. At the time Jerusalem was destroyed in 587 BC, it was in the 390th year since the splitting of Israel into the Northern and Southern Kingdoms. The 40 year portion for Judah would span from the beginning of Jeremiah’s ministry until the destruction of Jerusalem. If this is the primary fit Ezekiel 4, then the derivation used by Grant Jeffrey may be slightly suspect, if it weren’t for the fact that the number 2,520 is significant in other places as well.



The use of 2,520 is first and foremost the period of days found in seven periods of 360 days, as in the time left in Daniel’s Seventieth Week. Likewise, a derivation of 2,520 would be the period of seventy 360 days, which would be 25,200 days. It is believed that 25,200 days was the length of the Babylonian Captivity and the separate period of the Desolations of Jerusalem. Both periods overlapped 50 years. So from either end of these 25,200 days, we see these periods of 2,520 years to the modern era of Israel’s return.

Of course, there is another place that 2,520 can derived out of the Fall of Babylon itself. It was from the “handwriting on the wall”. The handwriting was “MENE MENE TEKEL UPHARSIN”. A MENE was equal to 50 shekels or tekels and with an UPHARSIN being worth 25 shekels, that would equal 126 shekels or tekels (50+50+1+25). The tekel could also be divided into 20 gerahs (Ezekiel 45:12). This would then mean that 126 tekels were also 2,520 gerahs. So at the time of the fall of Babylon, God uses the number of these weights to show Babylon’s judgement at that time was equal to 2,520 gerahs. Likewise, when Babylon falls again, it will be at the end of 2,520 days as determined by Daniel’s 70th Week.

The big question then is, if 1967 saw the last period of 2,520 years and the period of 2,520 days is yet future, can we find a bridge between that gap? Signs of the End and following studies found many aspects to conclude there is a trail of significance from 1967. This will be the subject of the next article.
