"WAS THERE AN ADDER IN THE GARDEN OF EDEN?"

An adder can be a poisonous viper or a venomous serpent, but another definition for "adder" is "one who adds." The woman Eve apparently was an adder because she adds her words to God's words as shown below in the book of Genesis:

Genesis 2:15-17, "And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die."

Genesis 3:1, "Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which [is] in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die."

What words did Eve add to God's words? She added "neither shall ye touch it."

What does the Bible tell us about adding to God's words?

Proverbs 30:5-6, "Every word of God [is] pure: he [is] a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar."

Adding to the words of God does not just mean publishing and printing a Bible and putting new verses in the Bible. It is one thing to present one's own ideas in a post as a theory or a possibility or as one's own opinion and state it as such, but we must be careful when we claim that God said or did something in His scriptures which is clearly not there in the scriptures lest we add to God's words.

We all must also be careful if we claim the Holy Spirit led us or moved us to write about something in a post that is not in the Bible when there is no Bible verse for it lest we add to the words of God because two or more people can both claim to be led by the Holy Spirit and yet have opposing views which means a person reading a post can not base the truth on what any human being claims because both opposing views cannot be right. Acts 17:11 says, "These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so." We are to search the scriptures daily to see whether what presented to us in a post or in a pastor's sermon is true or not. You can't just take the word of anyone claiming to be led by the Holy Spirit because anyone can make that claim. What if a fallen angel came disguised like a man and claimed to be led by the Holy Spirit, and preached a false gospel? Would you be able to distinguish what is the truth and what is are the lies if he mixed them together? There is only one truth which can be found in the scriptures which were inspired by God so every believer needs to know what is in the scriptures in order to be able to discern between truth and lies. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 tells us, "All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works."
