"I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.

The Lord promised that the door of Reformation could not be "closed."
No matter what the papal powers tried they still could not stop the reforms. The "door" was stuck open.
We need not conclude that only brotherly love characterized this era. It is filled with violence and struggle.
However, this period is without blame from God and indicates the faithful of this period were responding in ways pleasing to the Lord.
The reformation, though assailed from many quarters, could not be contained.
The One with the "key" of David (the Beloved), opened the door. It could not be shut.
For the papacy he shut some doors they could not "open."
A study of this period shows how wonderfully the Lord overruled affairs so that light could not be extinguished. There was favorable response to the light shining in the reforms that occurred. One must contrast this period with the reign of terror of previous periods, wherein papacy crushed and destroyed so many hapless victims.
The powers of darkness did indeed try to "shut" the door of the Reformation, but could not. The reform movement had only a "little strength" and a desire to keep God’s "Word." It was only the power of God that kept it from floundering.
Jesus reminded the religious leaders that they would see "the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven" (Matthew 26:64). Here the faithful are promised that their persecutors would "come and worship humbly before thee, and to know that I have loved thee" (Revelation 3:9). What a wonderful promise!
The church of "Philadelphia" was promised a blessing. They were to be "kept from the hour of temptation."
What was this "hour of temptation"? It was to be a time when many voices would be calling. A time when truth would be available, but when a thousand voices would be calling in all directions.
Philadelphia was founded as a border town to spread Greek
culture to surrounding areas. The church knew what it meant
to be missionary minded, to have an open door for the
spread of the gospel.
Philadelphia means brotherly love. The church name gave the
believers a constant reminder, they must love one another
if they were going to fulfill their missionary calling.
Philadelphia knew what it was to live in the midst of insecure
surroundings and under constant stress and strain. The city sat
over a large earthquake fault. In AD17 a terrifying earthquake
hit a huge area. It completely destroyed Sardis and 10 other
cities. Philadelphia was spared total destruction. But for years
it was constantly being hit by tremors, crumbling the walls to
complete destruction. The experience of having to constantly run
in and out of safety terrorized the population. Philadelphia after
its destruction by the earthquake, was given aid by the emperor
Tiberius for rebuilding. In appreciation the city changed its name
to Neocaesarea, the New City of Caesar. Philadelphia has a Jewish
synagogue within its city limits. The Jews claimed to be the only
followers of the true God. They claimed the keys of David, the
right open and to shut the door to God and His kingdom.
Have you ever seen a church that was so alive & faithful to
Christ? A church that focuses on Jesus Christ? A church that
focuses upon reaching and growing people for Christ? A church
that focuses upon teaching people to love Christ & to love one
another more and more? Have you ever seen that type of church?
This was the church at Philadelphia. The believers at
Philadelphia loved Christ. They lived like Christ said to live
and they carried out the mission of Christ upon earth.
The church was alive and faithful. It represents all the
churches down through the ages that are alive and faithful.
There is no complaint or against this church. Christ has
only praise and exhortation for the church that is
alive and faithful.

By seeing how much the Philadelpha church suffered, yet endured to reflect the virtues of Christ, humbles me, indeed. My life has been a cake-walk compared to theres! And in the end, the shaking of the Philadelphia Church resulted in a NAME CHANGE!
We are also enduring endtime shakings, but God will soon give US A NEW NAME!
Their "life's story", as reflected above, involving trials AND accomplishments, shows us, in plain language, who is commended in His sight. And I know ALL of us want to be commended! The story tells of those not mighty, nor powerful, but lowly in heart!
Christ's love, the dominant theme....the Philadelphia Church!
It is my understanding that Philadelphia Love is ALWAYS lowly and despised in this world. It's thought of as weak and impotent, because they are the ones consciously devoted to God's having His way, at all cost in their lives!
This type of spirit is rare, indeed, in our present (Laodicean) generation, where the very meaning of the word, Laodicea, is "rule of the people"!
But blessed be God........
"THEN (AT THE RAPTURE) the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father".
Light shines best thru an empty glass! Lord HELP us to get rid of all that offends you before you come, so that you can reflect your GREATEST Glory in each one of us, the Glorified CHURCH! Matthew 13:43
Jesus bought us with a terrible price, thank goodness we have His assurance He is continuing to work His purpose out in our Lives until the very day He calls us to "Come up hither!"
Be ENCOURAGED!.........
For it is God Himself whose power creates within you the desire to do His gracious will and also brings about the accomplishment of the desire.
