DISTRESS OF NATIONS

In Matthew 24:4-8 Jesus gave the signs of the "end of the age".

Critics have often dismissed those signs, saying that since the dawn of mankind there have been wars, earthquakes and famine.

The critics have a point. Or, do they?

When we examine the text closely Jesus said these signs would be ACCOMPANIED BY great religious deception not in some heathen god's name, but in His (Jesus') Name! (Matthew 24:4).

Clearly, that could only happen in the past 2,000 years.

He also likened them to LABOR PAINS: they'd become STRONGER and MORE FREQUENT the closer we got to "the end".

Moreover, He said these signs would ALL be taking place SIMULTANEOUSLY.

There have always been quakes, hunger and wars, but I don't know ANY OTHER PERIOD IN WORLD HISTORY where it was happening ALL AT ONCE, and on the scale we are seeing today.


Another thing we MUST consider is CONTEXT. While the Bible does contain many universal principles, no Scripture can be truly and fully understood out of its proper historic, cultural and chronological CONTEXT.

When Jesus prophesied that "nation would rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom", was he referring to war between Russia and Sweden?

Between India and Pakistan?

Between Chile and Argentina?

Or was He referring to the nations that comprised THE KNOWN WORLD of His day?

Clearly, the correct answer is the nations known in the first century A.D., namely the Middle East, parts of Europe, Africa and Asia.

Since the Roman Empire ruled ALL the then known world we could say that, IN CONTEXT, He was referring to war between nations and kingdoms WITHIN the former Roman Empire's territories.

And WHERE are we seeing one war after another break out?

You can compare the maps shown below and clearly see that the nations where wars have erupted, governments have been toppled, and upheaval is ongoing are the portions of the world that were known in Jesus' day.

Is this mere coincidence?

Is it coincidence that this is happening, and started happening, 7 years PRIOR TO the fall of 2017 when Jesus' Second Coming MUST take place according to Daniel 9:25?

Is it coincidence that, concurrent with these, 3 out of 4 people suffer hunger to one extent or another? (and I'm NOT talking about hunger from being on a diet).

Is it coincidence that, at the same time, we have seen huge quakes, and devastating tsunamis in places like New Zealand and Japan?

Is it coincidence that religious deception in Jesus' Name RUNS RAMPANT in this day and age (we just had a prime example of it weekend before last)?

Apparently, most people think that it is.

JUST as Jesus predicted, people go about their daily routines, eating, drinking, buying, selling, marrying and remarrying... AS IF none of it was happening.

Yet when someone sounds the alarm, even a FALSE alarm, as happened recently, everyone panics.

I witnessed firsthand the FEAR and feeding frenzy that took place when people thought "the end of the word" might take place.

Imagine when it REALLY HAPPENS:

Imagine when there's a HUGE land and atmospheric quake that rearranges geography as we know it.

When it suddenly turns DARK everywhere during daytime, and when people look up at night and the moon looks like blood.

Imagine when there's a huge meteor shower, and Jesus REALLY appears in the sky, while BILLIONS of His followers are swept away into the heavenlies.

No wonder God's Word says those left on earth will ask the rocks to FALL ON THEM and hide them (Revelation 6:12-16).

There will be PANIC on a monumental scale.
