Marriage Supper of the Lamb
The marriage supper of the Lamb is an event that will be magnificent. Jesus is the bridegroom, while the church is the bride of Christ. We read in Revelation 19:7-9
Marriage of the Lamb
7 “Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His 1 bride has made herself ready.”
8 It was given to her to clothe herself in a fine linen, bright and clean; for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.
9 Then he *said to me, “Write, ‘Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.’ ” And he *said to me, “These are true words of God.”
The backdrop to this imagery is rooted in Hebrew weddings. There were three phases: 1) the marriage was legally comsummated by the parents of the bride and groom; 2) the bridegroom came to claim his bride; and 3) there was a a marriage supper, which was a feast lasting several days.
All three of these phases are seen in Christ's relationship to the church, or bride of Christ: 10 As individuals living during the Church Age come to salvation, they become a part of the Bride of Christ for the church; 2) the Bridegroom (Jesus Christ) comes to claim His bride at the rapture, at which time He takes His bride to heaven, the Father's house (John 14:1-3), with trhe actgual marriage taking place in heaven some time after the rapture, prior to the second coming ( Revelation 19:11-16) and 3) the marriage supper of the Lamb, which apparently takes place on the earth at the beginning of the millennial kingdom. That this will be an earthly feast celebrated in the millenial kingdom seems to correspond to the illustrations of weddings in Scripture (see Matthew 22:1-14, 25:1-13). Guests at the marriage supper apparently include those who become believers duing the Tribulation period, and are thus invited into the millennial kingdom (Matthew 25:46).
