Putin orders military drills for 150,000 troops. Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday scrambled Russian military forces for a massive military exercise across the vast country.

The Russian Defense Ministry said that the maneuvers will last until Tuesday and involve about 150,000 troops, nearly 27,000 military vehicles, 414 aircraft and 106 navy ships.

It noted that the exercise is intended to train the troops for fending off “terrorist threats” in the country’s southwest and prepare for the even bigger “Caucasus-2020” drills later this year. The ministry said the troops will train at 35 shooting ranges.

US, Canada, UK accuse Russia of hacking COVID-19 vaccine trials

LONDON – Hackers backed by the Russian government are attempting to steal information from researchers and pharmaceutical companies racing to find a COVID-19 vaccine, Britain, the United States and Canada alleged Thursday.

Britain’s National Cybersecurity Centre said the hackers were "almost certainly" connected to Russia's intelligence services. Britain made the announcement in coordination with authorities in the U.S. and Canada.

The three nations alleged that hacking group APT29, also known as Cozy Bear, is attacking academic and drug research institutions involved in coronavirus vaccine development. The announcement did not specify which institutions and companies had been targeted or whether any vaccine information had been stolen.

Top US general in the Middle East questions bounty killing reports but warns 'Russians are not our friends'

The top US general for the Middle East told reporters Tuesday that while he found intelligence that Russian bounties to Taliban-linked militants led to the deaths of US troops "very worrisome," he is skeptical of reports it got troops killed.

The US intelligence community found that the Russian military intelligence unit GRU has been secretly paying bounties to militants to kill US and coalition forces in Afghanistan, The New York Times first reported in late June.

The president was reportedly briefed on the matter, but the Trump administration has denied the reports, claiming that the information was not credible enough to be brought to his attention, a claim that shocked former intelligence officials.
