Daniel 8: The Mystery of the Antichrist (Foreshadow of the Prince and the Sanctuary) (201
Daniel 8: The Little Horn Casts down the Sanctuary and Rises against the Prince
Lets review what we've studied so far. Daniel 2, 7, and 8 are parallel prophecies. Daniel 7 introduces the Little Horn power and describes the persecutions of the dark ages and ends with the judgement scene, where Christ recieves his kingdom and shares it with every saint that is found "worthy". Daniel 8 and 9 focus our attention on the Medo-Persian empire where the longest time prophecy in the Bible originates. Daniel 8 uses symbolism from the ancient Sanctuary service of the old testament. The two animals in the vision are two important animals of the sanctuary service. A Ram was sacrificed as a voluntary act of worship or for atonement of sin, and in the yearly service, a goat was sacrificed. This vision points us directly to Christ's role as our high priest and his work of atonement and of salvation. All three prophecies teach that Papal Rome will expand and strengthen in power until the end of time when it will be destroyed "without human means". (Daniel 8:25) Now lets continue our study of Daniel 8.
1. How did Pagan Rome exalt itself against the Prince of the Host and rise against the Prince of the princes?
Daniel 8: 11 reads, He even exalted himself as high as the Prince of the host. Daniel 8:25 reads He shall even rise against the Prince of princes;
Pagan Rome rose against the Prince of princes, Jesus Christ, when Pontius Pilate and the Roman soldiers condemned him to death and crucifed him.
2. How did Pagan and Papal Rome trample the host underfoot?
Pagan Rome started persecuting Christians around AD 64 when Emperor Nero blamed the Great Fire of Rome on Christians. Both Peter and Paul were martyred in Rome. The Great Persecution ended when Emperor Constantine legalized Christianity in 313 by issuing the Edict of Milan. Papal Rome persecuted God's people over a period of 1260 years through the crusades, inquisitions, by burning them at the stake, through torture and other atrocities.
3. How did Pagan Rome take away the daily sacrifices and trample the sanctuary underfoot?
Pagan Rome did this literally, when in A.D. 70 the Roman soldiers under the Roman general Titus set the temple on fire, detroying it to the ground and forever terminating it's services. In the 130's, Roman emperor Hadrian constructed a pagan temple in Jerusalem, renamed the city Aelia Capitolina, and forbade the Jews to ever live in the city again. That rule was enforced for centuries. Jesus fortold the destruction of Jerusalem as a future event in Matthew 24:15 which reads Therefore when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place” (whoever reads, let him understand), “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.
4. How did Papal Christian Rome take away the daily sacrifices and trample the sanctuary underfoot?
This question is more complicated to answer. To understand how Papal Rome took away the daily sacrifices we must first define what the word "daily" actually means. Daily is the Hebrew word "tamid." Strong's concordance defines Tamid as continual, continually, daily, perpetual, and other similar words. Translators of the Bible often add the word sacrifice or burnt offering, depending on the translation because Tamid is an adjective and looks like it's missing the noun. For example, The New King James Version translates daily as daily sacrifices. Daniel 8: 13 reads: How long will the vision be, concerning the daily sacrifices," The original Hebrew passage does NOT say sacrifice or burnt offering. This Bible verse signifies a continual something but doesn't tell us what that something is. Through an understanding of the Hebrew Sanctuary service, you will come to understand that the "continual" represents the continual high-priestly ministry of Jesus Christ on our behalf in the heavenly sanctuary. For example, Hebrews 8:1 reads "We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, a Minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected, and not man." Paul is referring to Jesus. He is our High Priest. Hebrews 7:21 reads The Lord has sworn And will not relent, ‘You are a priest forever. Jesus is our High Priest forever because He is immortal-he is our continual or perpetual high priest. The earthly priests who ministered in the earthly sanctuary of the old testment died and had to be replaced. Hebrews 7:23 reads Also there were many priests, because they were prevented by death from continuing. 24 But He, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood. 25 Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. This passage teaches that Christ's intercession on our behalf is continual. When Papal Christian Rome takes
