America in Prophecy: The End of the World (201
In this video, we will study the prophecies that describe America's role at the end of the world and then we will spend a few minutes introducing the church of Thyatira.
In the previous two videos we began studying Biblical symbols that detail America's role in prophecy.
To save time, I will only outline the most important points of this prophecy. Please read Revelation 13:11-18 for the complete passage. Point number 1:
1. The beast is like a lamb: The lamb is a symbol of Christ. At first, this beast has Christ-like characteristics. No nation in history has dedicated itself more openly to the principles of civil and religious liberty as the US. Listen to the lamb-like words of Declaration of Independence: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal; and that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; among which are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. (John 1:29 and 1 Corinthians 5:7.)
2. The beast spoke like a dragon: The dragon is symbolic of Satan and his earthly agents. According to this prophecy, America will reject her "Lamb-like" characteristics and will speak like a "Dragon". A nation speaks by its laws. The US has passed laws that support religious liberty and human freedoms. But a time will come when she will violate the principles of the constitution by passing laws that restrict and control religious worship. She will persecute all those who do not comply with her new laws that proscribe how to worship God. (See Revelation 12:7-9; Ezekiel 29:3 and Jeremiah 51:34)
3. This beast is coming out of the earth. To understand what the earth symbolizes, read Revelation 17: 15. In this passage, the angel tells John what the sea symbolizes. Vs 15, the waters which you saw, where the harlot sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations and tongues. If the sea represents a densely populated area, then the "earth" would represent a sparsely populated area. The nation thus represented would not arise by war, and conquest, but would develop into greatness in a region with few inhabitants. The US accurately fulfills the specifications of the prophecy. This nation arose not in the Old World with its teeming multitudes of people, but in the New World, with relatively few inhabitants.
In the next video, we will discuss the symbolic meaning of the "two horns of the lamb-like beast."
Lets now turn our attention to the Church of Thyatira. The 4th church period represented by this church spans 1000 years beginning in 538 and ending in 1565 A.D. This era is often referred to as "The Dark Ages." In Revelation 2:19, Jesus tells this church that He knows her "works, love, service, faith, and patience, and as for your works, the last are more than the first." Althought the state church was steeped in paganism which Constantine introduced through compromise, God still had groups of people who worshiped him with the purity of his early church. They followed the pure Biblical teachings. One such group was the Waldensians who were persecuted by the State church for refusing to acknowledge Papal supremacy.
For over 1000 years Jesus worked to bring the church to repentence and although many church members accepted the teachings of the protestant reformation, the official church sealed her decision to stay with tradition during the Council of Trent that took place from 1545-1563 AD. This marked the end of the time period that Jesus had given the church to repent.
Now we'll take a few minutes to review the most important points of the Protestant reformation.
The Reformation resulted in a separation from the Catholic Church initiated by Martin Luther and continued by John Calvin, Huldrych Zwingli, and other early Protestant Reformers in 16th-century Europe. It is usually considered to have started with the publication of the Ninety-five Theses by Luther in 1517 and lasted until the end of the Thirty Years' War with the Peace of Westphalia in 1648.
There had been earlier attempts to reform the Catholic Church before Luther – by Huss and Jerome, Peter Waldo, and John Wycliffe – but Martin Luther is credited to have started the Reformation with the Ninety-five Theses. Luther began by criticising the sale of indulgences, insisting that the Pope had no authority over purgatory and that the Catholic doctrine of the merits of the saints had no foundation in the Bible. Protestants beleived in the Bible and the Bible only as the source of all truth and the belief that faith in Jesus is the only way to be forgiven our sins whereas the Catholic church teaches that a persons sins can be forgiven by doing good works. Gutenberg's printing press allowed the common people to have a copy of the Bible in the common language. The largest protestant groups were the Lutherans and Calvinists. Lutheran churches were founded mostly in Germany, the Baltics and Scandinavia, while the Reformed churches were founded in Switzerland, Hungary, France,
