Kolkata: The president of the Ramakrishna Mission order, 97-year-old Swami Atmasthanandaji, who is undergoing treatment at Ramakrishna Mission Seva Pratisthan, is critical.
Swami Atmasthanandaji is the 15th president of the order and was elected in 2007. He has been undergoing treatment for age-related ailments for the last year. Sources at Ramakrishna Mission on Monday said that he had recently developed infections in the chest and urinary tract.
"He is having breathing trouble and has been put on oxygen," said Tapas Maharaj, Swami Atmasthanandaji's secretary.
"He is conscious and responding to calls, though he is not saying much," Tapas Maharaj added.
Swami Atmasthanandaji was born in 1919 at Sabaj pur near Dhaka in Bangladesh. He received his spiritual initiation from Swami Vijnanananda, a monastic disciple of Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa, in 1938.Swami Atmasthanandaji joined the RKM order at Belur math in 1941.
