Swami Vivekananda is the right role model for the youth of the country to emulate, said Athmananda Adigal, Head of Ramakrishna Mutt, Kanavaipudur here on Monday.
Speaking at the function for release of a book written by Thanjai Ramamoorthy, a senior advocate of Thanjavur on Swami Vivekananda titled ‘Samaya Samathuvam and Samooga Needhi’, Athmananda said that the clarion call of Swamiji to youthj- ‘Awake, Arise and stop not till the goal is reached’ mesmerised youth in the past. His Chicago lecture became world famous and increased the respect for India in the world arena. He appreciated former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi for declaring January 12, birthday of Swami Vivekananda as youth day.
R. Nallakannu, CPI senior leader, said that Vivekananda was described by philosophers like Romain Rolland as objective ideologist. Social thoughts of Vivekananda and Vallalar have to be imbibed and their fight against social evils should be put forward to view them in proper perspective.
Mr. Nallakannu released the book. S. N. M. Ubayathullah, State Commercial Taxes Minister, received the first copy.
Thanjai Ramamoorthy, Author of the book said that Swami Vivekananda looked upon as only a saint. But his dimensions are more and he was a multi faceted personality. His social thinking and economic and political policies are to be highlighted. He called for amity among religions and appealed to people to avoid confrontation on the basis of religion. He was against castes. He remained a humanitarian and said that hunger should be removed first before speaking about God to people.
S. R. Balasubramonian, former Union Minister, K. Thulasiah Vandayar, former MP and secretary and correspondent of Sri AVVM Pushpam College, Amuthan Adigal, Director, Dhyana centre, Velankanni, also spoke.
