Good job! During Haileslassiae I grew up in Addis Ababa and attended one of private boarding schools where students were from every ethnic group. And the majority of our parents were govt. workers and one of them was my own Oromo father. Ethnicity was never a problem.

You know, the funny thing is it's only recently that majority of Ethiopians were even aware of ethnic importance thanks to Meles and Co. It used to be a shame to ask someone about their background, especially during HS time..I think most Ethiopians know and are not stupid be it Oromos and Somalis and others that after Meles is gone (if ethiopia survives) this tribal thing won't be a big deal at all, except as usual for the extreme minorities who are racists and will always be around.

The Amhras kings open schools and higher learning institutions only in Amhra dominated region,to their own tribe (Amhra Tribe). The Amhras dominated governments never allowed Non Amhra Ethiopians to be educated. that is why the Amhras kings and Amhra dominated governments refused to open schools and colleges in oromia regions,Tigreans regions or any place where Amhras do not live. That is the reason why today as speak there are more educated Amhras than Oromos,Tigreans,Wolayetas,Worages,Gambelas,Sidamos,Harrers and other non Amhra ethiopians.
this is also the same reason why more than 79% of ethiopias white collar job (Professional Job) still dominated by single tribe (Amhra Tribe).

The Greatest Ethiopian Hero's and Kings in mondern times are who have influenced the protection of Ethiopia from foreigners and had an effective policy of unity and togetherness:
1) Emperor Teodros (Father of ethio unity; Estblished a modern army and a policy of nation building)
2) Emperor Yohannis (Defeated in battle Egyptians, Sudanese, Arabs, kept Euros at bay, and continued Teodros's legacy of a united Ethiopia!)
3) Emperor Menelik (Expanded the Army, united southern Ethiopia, defeated the Italians for the first time with Ras/General Alula who founded Asmera)
4) Haile Selassie (Regained Eritrea, often said that he had no enemies, initiated a policy of all are one, too many to mention for this guy)
I thought you all should know that the Meles current Tigres are 100% different from just two generations ago! The generation of Tigrays from King Yohannis time are completley different that they would go to war with anger with todays WOYANE! for having an anti ethiopian view let alone sell the land of Tigray after winning a war with the tiny Sheabia! Mengestu and Meles are both killers. I said Mengestu was better because he never tried to divide Ethiopia. I never knew Mengestu was Amhara. I am not Amhara my self. To me what matters is to have a great leader who has a great vision for all ethnic groups to lead us with compassion and kindness to the 21st century. Ethnic does not matter to me as long as the leader believes in one Ethiopia. Ethnicity only takes the country backwards like the rest of Africa who are killing each other everyday while the rest of the world are going ahead. You seem perplexed with the issue of ethnicity. That is why your comment is mixed with this sensitive political issue of Ethiopia. To elaborate, while you admire Mengistu for not trying dividing Ethiopia along this issue, you at the same time wanted to see a leader who has a great vision for all ethnic groups.
Your wish is commendable which all we have been longing, but the problem is whether to realize the country has many nationalities with many questions or denying the existence of nationalities and their questions. If you see realizing them as dividing along ethnicity, there is no cure for that: Except more dividing and bloodshed.
As long as nationalities question is respect, your fear of Ethiopia's division into pieces will go in vain.

You came to power to benefit your own people not to benefit all the other ethnic groups. The facts are clear. You are enjoying life as we know it, while others are suffering.
What is wrong with embracing ones culture and ethnicity? What is wrong with respecting differences? I don't think Meles policy is creating Ethnic tension; it is some Ethiopians in the Diaspora that are flaming Ethnic tensions. I was in Ethiopia recently, and I was pleasantly surprised to learn Ethiopians in general get along very well, and hardly talk about the so-called Ethnic divide. The theory of Ethnic divide is mainly discussed and promoted by some Ethiopians living in the West. I hate to say it but some Ethiopians in the Diaspora are creating an environment of hate and intolerance. If you don’t believe me take only a few minutes to read comments on Ethiopian Review and Ethiomedia. Religious, and Ethnic insults are commonplace. I urge all peace loving Ethiopian in the Diaspora to take active interest in politics and silence the minority extremists.
Remember we are all ETHIOPIAN no matter which ethnic group we belong.

Let me correct you once and for all about the longevity of the rule of Amhara kings over the southern part of Ethiopia.It was not more than 80 years combined by Menelik and Haile Selassie.Do not talk about 200 years which is an outright lie.
About not opening universities and hospitals in non-Amhara areas is also another outrageous lie.In Haile Selassie's time there were two universities.One was in Addis Ababa with affiliated colleges at Alemaya College and Gondar.The other university was in Asmara.That is it.There were colleges at Jimma and Ambo.Figure it out where these places are and you will get answers to your questions.
About hospitals I can't say much because I do not know the whole of Ethiopia.What I can say though is hospitals were built in the large towns only due to financial constraints.I have no doubt the southern provinces had more hospitals more than the north.Unlike your unfounded assertios that was how things operated.

BTW, some of these people are/were well educated. Their titles actually do not suffice their educational background. Perhaps if it wasn't for their ethnical background they would have gotten a higher post.
