Meles Zenawi: An Epitome Of a Dead Cat Bouncing

In Wall Street the expression of dead cat bouncing is used to depict the cruel fate of a stock that has crashed and shows a small upward movement for a few days before it crashes again.

How does this relate to Meles. Meles's stock has crashed when he lost his status as Tony Blair's poster child status. His stock slid down further when the US told him he has rigged the election. Meles's stock went south further when his God father Herman Cohen told him he is fraud. Meles's bubble burst when European and American Officials started to spend more time with his opponents than they do with him and his Foregin Minister. Meles's stock was crashed when EU representative dressed dwon his Minister of Information in a public letter, with a copy to Meles.

Meles's letter to the editor is a sign of a dead cat bouncing after hitting the ground. Meles needed write the letter for two reason. First is to tell his luetenants that he is still alive and he is not taking the visible attack lying down. He needed to show that he is in command. But the king has no dress. He has been dressed dwon first by the opposition and later by EU and US officials. It is obvious his action epitomizes a dead cat bouncing.

Dear Bula,

You are spot on my friend. It is amazing to look at the changes taking place before our own eyes. From being a fake democratic leader to brute dictator in just 4 months. No matter how long he stays in power, we all know his time is limited.

Let us hope for a new political system in our country in the new year. We are nearly there.

Love and Peace to Ethiopia
