BRUSSELS (AP) - Ethiopia's Kenenisa Bekele set a world record in the 10,000 metres at the Van Damme Memorial on Friday, beating the mark he set last year by nearly three seconds.

The 23-year-old Bekele, who defended his world title at the distance earlier this month in Helsinki, finished in 26 minutes 17.53 seconds, eclipsing his 26:20.31 set in Ostrava in June 2004.
