The opposition must work in the inside not on the outside

In my opinion the opposition must accept the ellection results whether the result is true or not. They must show thier true ethiopiawinet in action for the next five years in Ethiopian parliament. They can't just ignor the Ethiopian peoples wish and seat idle the next five years. The poeple expect many things from the opposition parties. Victry is for the Ethiopian people.

The other thing the opposition parties to consider is you have to compromise and sacrifice yourself for the sake of Democracy. Things are not always 100% in your way. Think about it.

Mo,

What is the purpose of joining the parliament if you can't do anything inside? Do you know that they can't even have their AGENDAS discussed? Do you know that they can't even discuss major policy issues? If the parliament doesn't discuss any issue proposed by the opposition, why they have to be there? It is only Woyane who will benefit politically.

Mo, mo, mo,
This is what you said:
”The other thing the opposition parties to consider is you have to compromise and sacrifice yourself for the sake of Democracy. Things are not always 100% in your way. Think about it.”

Wow! I don’t even know where to start. You see, you sacrifice yourself for the things you believe in; the opposition parties don’t believe in what Meles is doing. If they go with whatever Meles wants, then they have given up. Meles has denied the people of Ethiopia DEMOCRACY by stealing their votes.

Yes, things are not 100%, as you say. If the EPRDF had rigged the election to win, say 60% of the seats, then the opposition would have joined parliament. No one expected the EPRDF and its constituents to be able to step down from power and embrace democracy just like that. Let alone the EPRDF and its constituency, the society as a whole is just not ready for it.

But what has happened instead is that the EPRDF has made it clear that it wants to harm the opposition and roll back the gains towards democracy that were made before the election. The move of Oromia headquarters, the emasculation of Addis city government and parliament, using the investigation process to actually take away seats from the opposition, banning use of media, very confrontation and totalitarian-type rhetoric filled with warnings and threats, and so on. The ERPDF, having moved nicely along the path to democracy, has now gone in full speed reverse.

Mind you, there was no need for this. A 60% majority is more than comfortable. It is just a knee jerk reaction of remnants of a totalitarian mentality.

Given this situation, the EPRDF must be held accountable for leaning back towards totalitarianism. If it is not held accountable, it will not learn, and it will do further damage not only to the country, but to itself. It will make democracy more and more unlikely.

The only tool the opposition has with which to enforce some accountability is to snatch away the image of democracy that the EPRDF and the donor community so want for Ethiopia. This is why the opposition must strongly consider actions aimed towards exposing that democracy in Ethiopia is a farce.
