Meles' new cabinet

Who wants to be a minister in Ethiopia?
(Analysis by T.G)
After Prime Minister Meles Zenawi, whose own election board crowned him winner of the 2005 elections, rejected opposition call for an interim government, he is now believed to be busy allocating cabinet posts and key political positions to diehard loyalists, admirers and followers. Political guess suggests that a significant cabinet reshuffle is a remote possibility. The new cabinet will consist of Meles’ infamous loyalists who have done a great deal to prove their loyalty to the PM than anything worthwhile.

In spite of the absence of a betting syndicate in Ethiopia, the odds are high for the return of old faces, unelected ministers and officials well trusted by Meles including Genet Zewdie, Minister of Miseducation, Bereket Simon, Minister of Misinformation, Damit Yohannes, Speaker of the House of Poodles, Tefera Walwa, Minister of Incapacity Building and Harka Haroy, Minister of Injustice. Their job descriptions include rolling out the red carpet for the PM at Bole International Airport and to clap feverishly whenever he makes speeches.

Some members of the new cabinet including the Prime Misery are expected to come from Tigray where the people were allowed to cast their ballot papers but not to elect their true deputies as only the TPLF, which has set up absolute misrule in the region, took 100 per cent of the seats for the national parliament as well as regional council. A couple of new faces are also expected to be introduced from among an army of sycophant ‘experts’ who have been devoting a great deal of their time and energy to praise the PM and his wisdom on TV and radio.

In light of the widespread political dissent in Ethiopia, the formation of a new government by the PM will greatly aggravate opposition to his tyrannical misrule, which has adopted a motto of “the caravan moves on” without paying attention to the grievances of the people. The ‘new’ government to be formed by Meles Zenawi will be a blow to the hope for a democratic transition due to the fact that it is ready to sustain a one-man show for nineteen years, if everything goes according to plan.

Meles has already belittled the call for an interim government, to be mandated to call a fresh election within a year. He insisted that his party would form governments at federal and regional levels despite widespread aversion to his misrule sustained by fraudulent and suppressive tactics that he employs to stay in power.

Meanwhile, the cadre-controlled mass media have continued to disseminate misinformation with a view to discrediting and demonizing opposition parties while they keep on glorifying the ruling party and its leaders. Walta Information Centre, Radio Fana, the Ethiopian News Agency, Ethiopian Television, Radio Ethiopia, Addis Zeman and the Ethiopian Herald, all of which are controlled by the Minister of Misinformation, Bereket Semon, are focused on eulogizing Meles Zenawi and how support for his misrule and fraudulent elections continue to flood in from all corners of the country.

The people of Ethiopia are eagerly awaiting the inauguration of the new ‘cabinet’ that represents nobody but a ruthless tyrant. According to analysts, as the confrontation between the tyrannical government and the people will inevitably reach a critical stage, the main preoccupation of the cabinet will be devising and overseeing suppressive measures to quell uprising across the country. To effectively do its job Meles & Cab must eliminate all constitutional provisions on human, democratic and political rights, which are hindering the government from doing its jobs. A Chinese military delegation which talked to Ethiopia’s Prime Misery recently is suspected of having struck a deal to supply riot control gears such as tanks, machine guns, hand grenades and bazooka.

Meles has ignored calls for an independent inquiry into the June 8th massacre in which over 40 civilians were killed and 150 others injured when troops opened fire on protesters in the capital. If the PM had given orders to the use of force against civilians, he could have been impeached to stand trial...Despite all that, sceptics believe that the absence of an independent judiciary would ensure that the PM and his loyalists remain immune from prosecution as long as they are in power.

Re: Meles' new cabinet

ZENAWI AND HIS CADRES do not deserve to be called 'government'. they should not be given this honour. Whose government are they? As far as we know they have no legitimacy in Ethiopia and they do not represent the Ethiopian people. They are criminals and thives who have stolen the votes of our people and seizing power by violence. What kind of 'government' is this?
These gangsters will be removed by the Ethiopian people who are the source of all power.

Re: Meles' new cabinet

We need a government which represents us all equally. Meles is the greatest failure Ethiopia has ever known followed by Mengistu.

Re: Meles' new cabinet

Amhras --Vs-- None Amhra Ethiopians

tribally based, Amhra dominated political party (CUD) lost the election, because....

97% of CUD`s Leadership is dominated by Single Tribe (Amhra Tribe).

By The way, *Why did the Amhras failed to bring Justice and Democracy to Ethiopia and Ethiopians for the last 200 years of Amhras total domination of Ethiopia ? ? ?
