KHARTOUM, Sudan - The government of the Sudan has secretly decided to deport 12 Ethiopian soldiers who had sought refuge in Kassala, Sudan, five months ago. The soldiers threatened by the deportation are the following:
1. Dereje Bogale 2.Walelign Melkie 3. Abdi Idris 4.Semere Aweke 5.Derin Endalew 6.Alebachew Mengistu 7. Solomon Tesfaye 8.Mohamed Abdelkadir 9.Abdullahi Seyid 10.Jemal Ahmed 11.Mamo Enyew 12. Ibrahim Ali

The above had earlier defected to Eritrea but they were forced by the regime there to join an armed Ethiopian opposition group. They fled to the Sudan to seek asylum and were in Kassala town for the last five months. Sudan's government has dealt with the EPRDF regime in Addis Ababa and even allowed EPRDF security officials to photograph the refugee soldiers in their detention cells. The decision to deport the soldiers has been taken and Ethiopian refugees in the Sudan and their organization has launched a campaign to block this act from taking place.

SOCEPP calls on the government of the Sudan to cancel the deportation decision as the soldiers would face repression and even death if sent back to Ethiopia. The Sudanese government had in the past deported Ethiopian refugees to their deaths and it is high time it desists from such a condemnable act.

SOCEPP calls on Ethiopians in the Diaspora to launch an immediate and vigorous protest action to stop the deportation of the Ethiopian soldiers. SOCEPP appeals to the UNHCR

Re: Sudan to deport 12 ex-soldiers

Another corrupted country bribed by Ethiopian money. I am afraid for the outcome of these soldiers. May be these soldiers instead of leaving should have turned the gun on Woyanes and take out at least 40 of them as the Woyanes did to the 40 University students. Anyhow, my heart is with these poor soldiers.

Re: Sudan to deport 12 ex-soldiers

please let's all do what we can to alert humanitarian organisations and the UN about the plight of these soldiers. They are in real danger of being tortured and murdered by the fascist regime.

Re: Sudan to deport 12 ex-soldiers

Sudan will be responsible for the lives of these Ethiopian soldiers. It is a disgrace that the dignity and human rights of our soldiers should be violated in this way.
where is the UN COMMISSION FOR REFUGEES, WHAT IS THEIR job if they can not defend these defenceless soldiers? Let's all e-mail the UNHCR office in Sudan and help;

1. Jemal Ahmed
2.Walelign Melkie
3. Abdi Idris
4.Semere Aweke
5.Derin Endalew
6.Alebachew Mengistu
7. Solomon Tesfaye
8.Mohamed Abdelkadir
9.Abdullahi Seyid
10.Dereje Bogale
11.Mamo Enyew
12. Ibrahim Ali

Re: Sudan to deport 12 ex-soldiers

Please remember these soldiers and write to UNHCR on their behalf. If they go back into Meles’s hand they are going to be tortured.

Re: Sudan to deport 12 ex-soldiers

My prayers are with these soldiers. The thought of what they are going through makes me shiver. What a nightmare!! They have been serving their country with so little money for years and now this. When is this nightmare going to end? Why all these, God?

Please let's do what we can.

Re: Sudan to deport 12 ex-soldiers

Have these soldiers been deported by Sudan? For some reasons these soldiers didn't get the attention they deserved?
