Oppositon's Immediate and strong response critical

Ambassador Patrick, the person who didn’t utter a word when tens of civilians were murdered in front of his eyes came out to condemn the opposition at a time he thinks that he is sure where the power balance is. Very few EPRDF officials state as assertively as he did about opposition's involvement on the June 8 violence: “It’s not really blaming the opposition facts…the riots that led to the deaths of people were indeed organized by the opposition – there’s no doubt about that” This is not a statement, it is a full blown accusation in an obvious attempt to pave the way to Meles’s grand schemes. It has to be addressed as such.

It is incumbent up on the opposition to make an immediate and strong reply to this Ambassador at AAU and all concerned and demand for an immediate apology. This so called, Ambassador has also shamelessly blamed the opposition for the delay NEBE has created to the opposition “I think the delays were not anybody’s fault, except that the opposition kept demanding to clarify things, to investigate things and the government and the electoral board were patient, so were the supporters” which actually is an apparent admission that he has never been an impartial observer. Honestly speaking, the infamous, Bereket Simon would have said nothing different.

Failing to address this accusation with the at most seriousness is an obvious invitation for total diplomatic disaster.

For those of you, who would like to communicate AAU officials, I have posted some addresses below. I couldn’t get Ambassador Patrick’s e-mail

BBC’s Stephen Sacker
“Well, would you bring your people out in to the streets, if - as you suspect - the Electoral Board upholds the government’s victory and you regard the process is illegitimate?”

Hailu:- “If I consider it illegitimate?”

“Yeah.”

Hailu:- “Yes! I will.”

“What do you think? What will happen then?”

Hailu:- “It’s up to the government to behave as they claim to be a democrat.”

BBC’s Stephen Sacker

“Even after what happened on June the 8th what do you think will happen when you bring your people - tens and tens and tens of thousands of them onto the streets at the end of this?”

Hailu:- “You know what? If the government wants to do it, then it’s done! They don’t permit it; free expression of opinion.

“Then to dislodge - what do you call them; regimes like this? We have died before? We’re dying right now; today, yesterday, the day before. If you go all over Ethiopia, you will find people being apprehended, killed, taken to jail or kicked-off their land; becoming destitute and become beggars in Addis. What kind of a system are we goanna live with, if it’s gone continue like this?”

“Your policies and your decision over the next few weeks may lead to a terrible bloodshed in this country.”

Hailu:- “No! It would not. It will not. It has never done. We had the biggest demonstration in Addis before the elections. Nothing happens, if the government behaves itself.”

I don't trust that guy name hailu,

Re: Oppositon's Immediate and strong response critical

Jadu,
As always you have suggested the right idea. It just shows how inadequate the diplomatic campaign of the opposition parties is, if every Dick and Harry makes a mockery of our people in such a way. It is such a pity that a person in the position of an African union ambassador can make such a foolish comment. At least we should do our best to e-mail this individual what exactly we feel.

Re: Oppositon's Immediate and strong response critical

We have to accept that given the financial and political situation the opposition parties are in it will always be difficult to coordinate a diplomatic campaign and win the hearts and minds of every body in the world, even if we are victims of tyranny and fascism.

Ultimately, we have to believe in our selves and in the Ethiopian people. We have to make our people believe that they have the power to make things happen for themselves. What ever support external forces can give us, they can not fight for us.
The people determines the outcome of the currrent crisis.

Re: Oppositon's Immediate and strong response critical

It is inappropriate for an UA official to involve in an internal affair of a country. TPLF is known to bribing and even pedalling prostitutes to AU officials. It seems it is paying.
