Wlamart is not engaged in illegal activity. Walmart does not use government offices to close its competition. Wallmart competes with its competition fair and square. In a country where there is virtually no middle class, we don’t need first ladies who abuse their connection to become multimillionaires/multibillionaires. We need many middle class entrepreneurs who can employ much more than the few millionaires and assure us the money stays at home. When local money gets to Billions, I assure you it will definitely gets out. The same is true about the “TPLF’s endowments”.

About the rights of the Muslims and TPLF/EPRDF,

Mr. Tulu, any attempt to disassociate the respect for individuals right from that of Muslim’s right is farce and dangerous. This attempt by itself in essence is abusive to the rights of Muslims for it implies there is two standard in the country. Yes, hundreds of years of association between government and the church in Ethiopia has made the respect of the right of Muslims very difficult. However, their right could only be respected so long as there is a system which respects basic human right which encompasses the right to exercise ones religion. So long as there is no such a system, there is no way that one would attain equality of religion.

The biggest achievement for Muslims in the dergue era wasn’t the three holidays you alluded to. The biggest achievement then was the fact that religion was made to become no more a part of the government. Are you aware that the Monarch’s constitution states that “Orthodx Christianity is the religion of the government”?. Do you know that a third of Ethiopian land used to belong to the church? This was what was changed by dergue which has brought the two religions nearly on equal footing, not the holidays etc. Now, Tell me Mr Tulu, whether what TPLF has provided is better than what dergue did? Tell me whether the economic resurrection TPLF has brought to Orthodox church is in par with the principle of equal start, or equality. I recall, that the church is now second to the TPLF endowments economically. Mind you, in spite of these big achievements during mengistu era however, Muslims right still wasn’t complete during for no other reason than the fact it was a system that doesn’t respect the right of individuals of all walks of life.

Now, I will tell you what the TPLF regime has brought. It has killed tens of innocent people in the grand mosque and imprisoned many elderly religious leaders for decades for rejecting a puppet council which serves TPLF’s purpose. This is a regime which writes a constitution which states separation of religion and government yet, meddles with the affairs of the Muslim by assigning cadres as leaders of the council. Etc. etc. Let me tell you, many Muslims rather think the relatively higher proportion of Muslims in the parliament as an achievement during this regime. But, every body also agrees those were good for nothing, who rather damage the cause of Muslims than help them for they stand on the way of attaining human right in the first place. They are people who failed to condemn the killings in the mosque. The apparent change in the number of mosques we saw with the current regime is nothing than the reflection of the over all world wide situation and the demise of communism (anti religion) in Ethiopia. This was a continuing trend observed since the last days of dergue, not what TPLF has given us with a plate as you try to depict it here. Haven’t we seen enormous growth in protestant churches, Johovas. etc.?

Ethiopian Muslims know that a system which respects their human and citizenship right is what they need to exercise their religion freely. We don’t need special favors.
