UPDATE FROM ETHIOPIA

OPPOSITION'S CLAIM FOUND FRAUDLENT:

WITH ITS ALREADY SECURED 291 SEATS EPRDF CERTAIN TO FORM THE NEW GOVERNMENT

According to a report on an Ethiopian weekly, the Nation, the ruling coalition-EPRDF- has ensured its victory with 291seat, while the CUD and the UEDF secured 108 & 52 seats respectively as per the officially tallied and confirmed count carried by the NEBE so far. The NEBE has been forced to delay its official announcement of the results following the submission of appeals by the contestants, particularily the CUD which filed the highest number of cases, claiming widespread irregularities & vote rigging: subsequently requesting for investigation and possible re-vote. However, the investigation so far appears to have disproven the litany of allegations submitted by the oppostion. According to sources that have close access to reliable information, it is projected that the announcement of the final and total official results might come up with figures that will surely show the CUD loosing even some seats that it would have otherwise kept had it not gone in to the investigation. Many local and foreign analysts of the recent election have started to publicly advise the opposition to just realize that it is time to call its unrealistic claim to power to a halt; return sanity among its leadership and prepare itself to shoulder the monumental task it has been handed to handle by its unexpected election victory in securing parlamentary seats. The EPRDF, they say, has gone all the extra miles( some of which are not even accustomed in many emerging democracies) needed to massage the opposition, ensure transparency and creadibility of the process: it is now high time to focus on carrying its heavy task of leading this
nation of 70 million , with all energy and undivided attention.
