According to a joke we had recently read in Ethiope – that intrepid Amharic-language weekly – what we had last month referred to as “tartar troops” from the north, who didn’t apparently know Kigali from Addis, were told by their commanders that they were to fly – and that “for the second time” – to Rwanda overnight where the mischievous Hutu interahamwe were up to their old tricks of butchering their Tutsi brothers.
Agazi troops were recently told that they were again going for a peace mission to Ruwanda. After accomplishing their tasks – that is by killing over forty rebels and wounding hundreds of others – the Agazi troops were flown back to their secluded camp. Having been complimented on a job well done by their commanders in the interest of universal peace, the troops were asked if they had noticed anything different during their latest mission. “This time all the Hutu rebels spoke Amharic,” was their reply.
