BBC got duped by VOA and Ethiopia protests

The Ethiopian Embassy in London expressed strong protest against the appearance on the BBC of the story: "Ethiopia charging families 120 dollars to retrieve riot victims' bodies", which it describes as "outrageous and baseless". The letter of protest Ethiopian Ambassador Fisseha Adugna sent to the BBC monitoring says, "This wild allegation is absolutely without foundation and has caused great distress to many... It urged the BBC monitoring to look into the matter and inform the Embassy of its findings.

Comment: The source of the story is VOA Amharic. They talked to a woman in Addis Ababa (Finfine) on the phone who told them the government is charging relatives of the dead $120 to retrieve the body. Everybody knows VOA is ethically challenged, but BBC picking up story from VOA or the tabloid papers in the Capital City without checking the veracity of the story is despicable. It was this type of "journalists" who got their accreditation revoked NOT those who pratice genuine journalism.
