Again this does not square with the facts. In the first place, Melles’s group – the EPRDF - was not party to the Carter peace talks. Carter considered the EPRDF as a junior player and at any rate, Carter’s peace efforts were aimed at finding a half-solution to Eritrea and salvaging the Mengistu regime. In the circumstances, the prospect for Melles to share his war plans with Carter seems extremely remote. Melles did not also travel to these destinations in those times although he attended, for the first time, the London talks that were hosted by Herman Cohen in May 1991. He is mostly remembered for his BBC interview idolizing his mentor Enver Hoja, the Albanian extremist leader."
