Hospital Pharmacy Buyer (Portland, OR)

Description
Under general supervision, the buyer:

  • Maintains inventory of medications and supplies in fast-paced hospital pharmacy.

  • Researches and purchases drugs and drug supplies through multiple vendors , with the goal of maintaining appropriate stock levels and achieving maximum contract compliance with current group purchasing programs.

  • Receives the medication and supply orders, ensures invoices are complete and accurate, prepares necessary documentation to initiate processing of the invoices.

  • Places medications/supplies received into inventory with appropriate storage conditions.

  • Manages 340B drug purchasing program, including order splitting software, appropriate purchasing through GPO, 340B, WAC wholesaler and direct accounts, conducting audits to ensure compliance with 340B rules/regulations.

  • Develops and produces drug purchasing reports and analysis as needed.

  • Maintains records in accordance with federal, state, and local laws.

  • Conducts annual financial and controlled substance inventories.

  • Serves as liaison between pharmaceutical suppliers, the group buying organization, corporate pharmacy department, and the hospital pharmacy department.

  • Assists in daily pharmacy technician workflow as needed.

  • Organizational relationships include direct responsibility to the Pharmacy Director and working closely with the Clinical Specialist on formulary management.


Qualifications
Oregon Pharmacy Technician license required; CPT license or license-eligible preferred. Two years in hospital purchasing field and/or inventory control preferred. Hospital pharmacy technician experience highly desirable. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Intermediate computer skills with an emphasis on MS Word, Excel, purchasing software, and pharmacy computer information systems. Ability to work independently in initiating daily responsibilities, anticipating changing inventory needs, and meeting deadlines. Strong organizational skills in coordinating multiple tasks. Must display positive attitude of service, ability to work well as part of a team, eagerness to help others.
