For All First-Time or Infrequent Flyers

For those who have never flown or fly infrequently, I VERY STRONGLY urge you to visit the Transportation Security Administration website (www.tsa.gov) to find out what is and is not allowed to travel with you, both in your luggage and your carry-on. It will mean the difference between having a relatively eventless flight, and having your luggage destroyed, being pulled from the line for inspection, and quite possibly detained. Also note that TSA employees have absolutely NO sense of humor, so remember not to make any mention, even as a joke, of bombs or any other terrorist buzzwords when going through security checkpoints-you will regret it.

Also remember to check with your specific airline on their luggage policies, to see what they include and what will be an extra charge, as well as their definition of a carry-on bag and any weight limits for checked bags. If they are available in your region, Southwest airlines is known for having some of the more reasonable policies in this respect.
