Mephyton tabs - EXPENSIVE!

Hi all,

Wondering what you were doing (if anything) to reduce the cost impact of the Mephyton 5mg tabs. With WAC price approaching $6000 per 100 tabs, we're looking for ways to save money.

Thanks!

Re: Mephyton tabs - EXPENSIVE!

The cost of this has just sky rocketed over the years. This happen when Merck sold it to a small company who has made this drug there bread and butter money maker (as you can tell by the cost) I have went out to some other hospitals and we share a bottle to reduce our over all cost. I have heard of some facility using the injection to make a oral solution but there is no data on stability that can be found

If you are a 340B DSH hospital this item is on the DSH contract very cheap. I think it is $9.00 per bottle. We have several months worth of this item right now.

Re: Mephyton tabs - EXPENSIVE!

We are also a DSH hospital, but unfortunately I don't have any eligibility to purchase it at 340B prices...I saw that too. We almost always use it in the inpatient setting so I don't see us even getting any eligibility any time soon. Thank you for the suggestion though!

We just started using the injection as oral as a cost saving measure.
