DSCSA Guidlelines

Hello all,

Does anyone know where I can find exactly what I need to be doing for the new DSCSA guidelines? With all of the information I have found, I need to go through a lot of manufacturer and distributor information and haven't found anything that states specifically what we need to do as a hospital pharmacy. Thanks for the help.

Re: DSCSA Guidlelines

Everything I have read and inquired about says that all we (as hospital pharmacies) have to do to comply is keep all the records of transactions with medications listed in detail from each distributor or manufacturer that you purchase products from. And also make sure they meet the requirements that are required of them. Everyone I do business with has already sent letters out stating they are up to date and are following all guidelines set forth. In the state of Louisiana, we already had to keep up with the information they are asking for now.

Re: DSCSA Guidlelines

Thank you for your quick reply. For wholesalers that we use regularly it seems like I don't have to do anything other than keep the invoices (which I already do). What if we borrow from/lend to another facility. I imagine the logging procedure will be more complicated. Thanks again.

I sent you an e-mail that I attached our form we use when lending/transferring out a drug.

Hello Tara,

Is that something you would be willing to share with me as well? I am curious how others are handling the situation. My wholesaler has an option to print the original invoice with the manufacturer information on it.

Re: DSCSA Guidlelines

Hi Gerard! Thank you for your interest in the National Pharmacy Purchasing Association (NPPA), and your comment/question here, asking for information on the new Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) guidelines.

As luck would have it, our upcoming 2015 NPPA Conference this August 17-20 at Bally’s Las Vegas, there will be a CE presentation on this very topic you’re asking about, as listed here below (which also fulfills the 1 hour of Pharmacy Law CE required for recertification).

Drug Supply Chain Security Act: Current & Future Implications for the Pharmacy Buyer*

, PharmD, BCPS, CGP, Pharmacy Director, Ashtabula County Medical Center, Ashtabula, OH
*Qualifies for Pharmacy “Law” CE requirement

To see all of this year's CE sessions, go to our NPPA site's Educational Program page.

2015 NPPA Conference Registration is currently still open, so if you are still able to attend, please click HERE for our Attendee Registration & Info page; or call our main office for any questions (888-544-NPPA). Thank you for your interest!

Re: DSCSA Guidlelines

Hello,

Can anyone provide some insight on what to do if you borrow/loan drugs but the other pharmacy does not provide this information? I have borrowed here and there from other hospitals and retail pharmacies and not a single one had any idea what I was talking about when I asked for DSCSA information. I do my best to record all of the necessary information but I am not sure if I am liable if the information is not sent with the product.

Thanks!
