Bar-Code

We are starting to bar code everything in our pharmacy for bed side bar coding. I was wondering what other facilites are doing to bar code inhalers, ointements, and eye drops. Some other facilites have said that when their order arrives they open each one and bar code it right away, but I don't really want to do this incase of a recall or I need to return the item. Can anyone give me some feedback?? Thanks so much

Re: Bar-Code

We have been doing bedside bar coding for almost a year. We use the barcode on the items if at all possible. Some items do not have bar codes on the bottle but has the bar code on the box. We use the bar code on the box and put the patient lable on the box. There are some items that have the wrong format and we have to make barcodes. I do them as they come in to save time. If there is an item that is multi dose then I make bar code labels and put in bin with the med and the nurse gets one of the bar code stickers to scan. Hope this helps.
