Drug Shortages and the manufactures

OK,
Got to rant about this or I will explode! I’m getting real tired of the drug shortages getting worse and worse and the drug rep/companies see to give you a vague response and answer about when it will arrive and what the exact problem is. I also hate when they can’t provide over 20% of their product line and they call you pushing a new product that will be coming out soon and how much would you like to pre-book? What I would like is for them as a company to stop trying to come out with any new products and work on the ones that are critical to patient care. Also stop having sales meeting where all your reps are in hotels for a week out of state. Having meetings. Dining out and "working". They should all have their dinners be on "back-order" and have to fend for themselves like most of their customers. My opinion is that there sales force should go to the factories and roll up their sleeves and help with the manufacturing process to help elevate this sever problem. Or have one of their family members in need of a medication that only they provide and have them told that the first 2 lines of medication therapies that they need to cure them are not available and that there is a 3rd that is not as effective. Then will there be a solution to this?

Oh, NO!!! You're NOT alone. I've been telling the reps for years not to come to me with a new drug until they can provide all the ones we've been wait for. We keep thinking "it has to get better", but it only seems to get worse.

If Mr. Millen was an NPPA Member or Conference Attendee, he’d know by now that he’s not alone in his feelings on this issue and others that Buyers face in their jobs day in & out. In addition, we now have a regular monthly news column in NPPA’s official publication, Pharmacy Purchasing Outlook, that gives updates on new product approvals from the FDA’s Shortage List, and general news about legislation and updates on the Drug Shortage Crisis.
