Reduction of waste of expired medication

If anyone can give some input my company has an offsite pharmacy we service 10 longterm acute care hospitals all the hospitals have a med-dispense its the same as (omnicell or pyxis)the problem is when something expires in the pharmacy or in one med-dispense more often all 10 will have it expiring we are tring to get rid of all this waste we are tossing out tons of money with this waste also we are tring to find out what might be a good way to move some of these drugs where we can maybe use most of them up first at lease start this process the only problem our hospitals are all over the state of Louisiana any input would be great

Re: Reduction of waste of expired medication

Our Omnicell has a report that tells you how often things are being used. if you ran the report monthly, you could (as you make your rounds) move things from one facility where they aren't being used to a facility where they would be used. That might help you reduce the amount you expire.
