I was just wondering if any of you get calls from drug reps asking you to purchase their drug so they can meet quota? I received 2 requests at the end of Sept. I did not purchase b/c I did not need and I told the rep that. I also told my director and she said we could get the rep banned if the requests continued. Just wondering if anyone else has to deal with this?
it has happened once in my 5 years. I helped the rep out because she had helped me out in the past and she only wanted me to purchase a little more than a two weeks supply for us.
I'd helped reps when I was a Buyer, but only when it suited the hospital's best interest.
If you'd like a "handbook" on how to handle reps, there is an article on the PPO Reprints page in the Member-Only section of this website called "How to Lose a Customer in Ten Ways." It delineates the ways a sales Rep can make themselves not welcome in your pharmacy. I've been told that the article has been used by some companies as part of their New Rep Orientation, so it does have some validation, despite its frivolous title.
I've had those calls, but fortunately, not too often. I will buy up small quantities, especially if it is a fast moving drug that won't just sit on the shelf. And, I will tell a rep if it's something I just do not need, "No can do!".
