Re: Oxaliplatin

Sanofi sued Hospira and I believe the other generic manufacturers for patent infringements. Sanofi won in a court of law a couple of weeks ago. Therefore the only Oxaliplatin that will be available on the market is the Eloxitin - the branded product at a much higher price. The generic folks will not be able to sell generic oxaliplatin until some time mid to late 2012.

If you buy much of this, it will effect your budget significantly. Also you may want to check out your Chargemaster if you lowered your charges due to lower cost on the generic. You will want to make sure that you charge accordingly to the new higher price of the brand.

If you are a current NPPA Member, see the April PPO in the Legal News section, where it explains the legal proceedings that have been going on with Oxaliplatin. Also, another company has just gotten their generic approved. That information is in the April edition's Generic News section.
