Hi all,
Does anyone have a better disposal bin for propofol aka "milk of amnesia" besides the RCRA Hazardous waste black plastic disposal bins by Kendall? These bins have a very large round hole in the lid for tossing the meds in but it also could allow someone to reach in with both hands and steal the remaining contents of a vial of propofol. On the street this drug is known to give the user a high right before they pass out. Since the Michael Jackson incident there has been lots of talk of changing the class of this med but until then we would like to not be liable if someone did take some propofol out of the bins for personal use. We have one bin in 10 OR rooms in the hospital, plus 6 in SDS so it would be expensive to toss the bins out every day. Our county waste inspector says we cannot use our syringe bins for propofol disposal. These bins have the flap that prevents removal after something is tossed in it.
Thanks
