ethylene glycol poisoning

Yesterday our ER had a patient with ethylene glycol poisioning. We do not stock the antidote for this which is fomepizole, the ER doctor then requested iv ethanol. Can anyone tell me if they stock iv enthanol and get me info on ordering it? In my 17 years here I don't ever remember hearing of a patient with this diagnois. The patient was given a couple of beers then sent by helicopter to a larger hospital.

Re: ethylene glycol poisoning

We stock alcohol 5%/D5 1000mL (which I see Hospira has discontinued) and dehydrated alcohol (98% ethanol) 5mL amps. It is from American Regent NDC 00517-8575-10.
We actually keep the 1000mL bottles in our ER Pyxis machine for the poor souls who thinking drinking anti-freeze is a good idea.
Hope this helps

In addition to the 5ml amps, we stock the American Regent 1ml amps NDC # 0517857110. These are both dehydrated Alcohol. We do stock the antidote. At this time of year, it seems we have one of these happen.
