angiomax

I just wondered about your reaction to The Medicine Company's new policy for getting Angiomax. We are (for a few more days) able to order from the wholesaler and get the drug the next day. The Medicine Company wants to make Angiomax a dropship item which will add at least a day or 2 to the turn-around time.
I don't have the money or the space in Pyxis to keep as much on hand as I feel I would need.
Novation is currently in negotiations with The Medicine Company to have the rescind this policy.
I've already sent an email to Harvey Newman at The Medicine Company (last wee, but haven't had a reply) and today forwarded that email and additional comments to Todd Cooper at Novation.
Maybe it will help all of us if we make our feelings known to individual GPOs.

Re: angiomax

I'm not happy about it either. I don't understand why they're going to drop ship delivery for such a critical item? I have a meeting soon with my GPO rep, and I intend to bring it up as well. I'm going to up my par to cover myself, but we don't have much room for storage either, so its going to be a pain to make the adjustment, not to mention getting the pharmacy used to the idea that it won't be in the next morning...

Several of my fellow buyers from the VHA Central region have contacted Novation with similar reactions to mine, so maybe it will have the desired effect on The Medicines Company! We can only hope!!!

It might help to get your Clinical people to throw some of their weight around; citing patient safety hazards. Sometimes the economic factor may not be enough to sway them. Citing the delay as threat to patient safety may turn a few more heads.

Re: angiomax

It really doesn't effect us because our wholesaler is Cardinal Health and the product is dropshipped and recevied the following day. The only difference is I have to call customer service at Cardinal Health instead of entering the DP # into the Cardinal computer and have them place the dropship for me but I still receive the product the following day.

Re: angiomax

We also use Cardinal and receive it next day, but it goes to receiving, which means we don't get it until 4pm at the earliest, instead of 6am, plus the inconvenience of having to call in the order. I can't imagine why they'd do this with such an important drug... we just doubled are par so we don't get that low.
