This probably has something to do with the FDA mandate to review older drugs that were grandfathered into approval before 1962. It's a whole big mess that we're stuck in the middle.
There's a link on the web page that has the FDA report, and a brief article in this month's newsletter. Unfortunately, it doesn't list the drugs affected, although it may range in the hundreds. You can use the paper to show your Director why common drugs are either backordered or more costly.
We use Cardinal and I'm still able to get it. Although it shows it as being on backorder with no release date, must be they still have some in their warehouses, just no new product coming in. Do you have another facility near you that uses Cardinal that could order some for you? We do that with another local hospital here that uses a different wholesaler, it really works out great when one is out but the other isn't.
