Thought for the Day 3/27/07

On and Popping

And no, this is not a Chris Brown song. J. Yesterday I visited the break room at work saw someone popping some popcorn. I thought briefly about how sometimes that little bag is one of the best snacks to get if you’re hungry because it turns into so much food. That caused me to think a little more, and before long I was analyzing how it works and seeing how we in our lives can also learn from the popcorn. In fact, our purposes are to our lives as the kernels are to popcorn. Look at the following points.

1. Popcorn is small and very inexpensive. It usually costs less than a dollar for a single bag which doesn’t take up much space at all to store. In the same way, our purpose is very inexpensive and the cost is little. The only cost to get one is to be born and it is automatically in us, and it is packaged small within us for easy storage.

2. You put it in the powerful microwave when you get hungry and activate it to prepare to receive something much greater when all is finished. When we get hungry in life, and want something more from it, we simply need to put our life and direction in God’s powerful hands expecting (having faith) that something better shall come from it.

3. You then cook the popcorn, for a brief time period. Though while it seems like it’s taking a long time when you are waiting and hungry, after it is over, you realize just how short it really was. On the same note, when we are waiting for our purpose to manifest, it sometimes feels like ages, but when we look back on it afterwards, it wasn’t that bad.

4. During this brief time of cooking, the microwave gets very hot, even to the point where the kernels are steaming. As a result of the extreme heat, the kernels actually transform to a new, much larger, flavorful, fulfilling snack. If it doesn’t get hot enough, the kernels don’t pop to their full potential though, and if it gets too hot, they burn, that’s why a skilled popcorn popper should be the only one preparing it. Our life, too, gets very hot as we move towards our potential, but if we stay in God’s skillful hands we will reach the full potential of our purposes. If we jump out too soon, and faint, we won’t reach our full potential, and if we don’t move on and step out (take action) when God tells us to, we’ll get burned. Yet, if we move on God’s leading, endure the fire through its full term, and then take action when God moves our heart to step out on the faith that has been being developed, the seeds of our purposes will transform into new, larger, enjoyable, fulfilling works for the glory (pleasure) of our God!

So, let us all fulfill our purposes, no matter how many individual purposes/gifts there are that lead to our final greatest. Understand that you will have to go through some heat though. The Word says that our works will be tested by the fire. But, if we faint not, we shall step into the victory and glory of God’s blessings and promises. I encourage you to stay the course for each journey He leads you to, and hold on! He will never leave your nor forsake you, but fulfill that which He says He will. Set your life in His hands, so your life can be on and popping, and transformed into something greater.
