Why I Smile - 9/1/06

Why I Smile - 9/1/06

I have often been asked why I always smile. I’d often think of it as a peculiar question, but with reflection of the world that we live in – so full of sorrow, depression, adversity, jealousy, hatred, etc. – I understand why our smiles have been taken away. With this, I will answer the question of why to smile even in this world.

  1. I smile because I am saved. Though each man is born, destined to spend an ETERNITY in Hell forever burning and in torment, God so loved the world that He gave is only begotten son (Christ) to die for our sins. And whosoever shall believe on Him, call on His name and repent for their sins, and accept His sacrifice shall be saved from the eternal judgment to be given everlasting life.

  2. I smile because even though I’m not rich, I have never faced true starvation or homelessness, and even during the times of just getting by I still GOT BY. I have a job, shelter, transportation, food, and though I seek much better for each of these, I could be one of the millions who can only dream of having just half of the little that I got.

  3. I smile because even though I catch a cold here and there at most, God’s word assures me that Christ has taken on all sickness so I can and will overcome (through Him) anything that comes my way.

  4. I smile because even though I’m not perfect and make mistakes, I have been given the means for redemption, and the truth shall always set me free.

  5. I smile because even though I face trouble and difficulties sometimes, God assures me that all things work for the good of those who love Him, so despite how bad it is when I’m going through, I’m going to come out on top with some kind of victory.

  6. I smile because I know that the power of love (the scriptures say that God is love) can change anything and the greater my persecution for sharing the love and righteousness of God, the greater my reward shall be.

  7. Lastly, I smile because though I’m in this evil world, I know that I’m not of this world but of a greater kingdom. But even though I am here, Jesus is in me and I in Him, and He has overcome the world, so shall I.

So if you don’t smile, know that you have reason to smile and are able to do so through Him. Because if I think about the Lord, and all that He’s done for me, and all that He’s brought me through, I can’t help but be filled with joy. I should’ve been dead already:

  • After multiple car accidents that totaled out the vehicles involved and sent others there to the hospital but I walked away unharmed,

  • After having had guns pointed at me simply trying to hang out at the park during a local celebration,

  • After nearly drowning after falling into a 12ft deep pool, not knowing how to swim on bit,

…but I’m still here, alive and kicking, and I AIN’T going NOWHERE! So, I have a reason to smile, and so do you. Think back through it all things YOU have made it through, and where you could’ve been. Look at the pain (slavery, torture, famine) going on all around the world. You are a survivor! You are blessed already! You’ve got the victory!

Smile

By the grace of God,
