Sometimes in the natural egocentrism of human thought we forget how small we are in the cosmic whole of things. Even in the motivating generalizations of the Christian faith, as from all of the “all about me; bless me” teachings of the modern church, we often over-estimate the significance of our own petty efforts towards the seeking of God.
Think about the fact that there are billions of people in this world, possibly even billions that profess the Christian faith. Yet in that multitude God knows the number of hairs on each of our heads (Matt. 10:29-30). But understand one thing – God is going to bless us even if we are doing nothing. He sets the sun to shine on the wicked as well as the righteous. And in the Day of Judgment, many will be denied by Jesus as He tells them He never knew them because though they were doing all of the church type procedures, they never truly believed enough to give their life for Him. Basically, not all will make it. The road is straight and narrow for the righteous, but wide for those that shall perish; and even with that for those of us who are trying to stay on the straight and narrow, do you stand out?
It is so easy and quick for so many of us to say “bless me indeed.” It is so easy and quick for so many of us to want all of the power of God (to heal and prophesy and do the acts of the great apostles like Peter and Paul) and the desire to be exalted in the kingdom of God, exalted among man. But… we must carefully examine ourselves when we wonder why it isn’t happening to us and truly ask the rhetorical question, “What are you doing to stand out to God?”
Understand this, God does love each of His children equally and will take care of the needs of all, but of all the millions and millions around the world, what are you doing to stand out from the rest and show that you deserve MORE than the rest. Any parent who has more than one kid can attest that for certain things he/she will choose certain children over others for certain things based on their responsibility and actions. There’s one kid you’d let drive before you’d let the other(s) drive, and maybe another you’d trust more with money, and another you’d trust more to look keep the house in order when you’re away, and so forth. If you look at a corporate model, though the corporation pays all of the employees some salary and gives all of the employees benefits, those that STAND OUT from their dedication and hard work will be promoted faster and greater. Even in the entertainment industry (one of the hardest to excel in) those that put forth the most effort and dedication (including and especially the vital networking aspect, because a lot is based on WHO you know) and get out there and “grind” are the ones that get ahead and are exalted.
So, in the kingdom of God where so many want to be exalted by the Lord and be blessed so tremendously and have so much power, what are you doing to stand out above the rest? What are you doing to show God that you deserve it so much more than everyone else? Are you willing to give yourself completely, or do you hold back certain things for yourself more than some of the others that are seeking the same level of anointing in God? Are you enduring in the faith in Him or getting fed up with waiting on God? Are you being appreciative of what God is giving you, or complaining because it isn’t exactly what you want?
See, it is an honor to be chosen by God directly because of your faithfulness. Job was specifically chosen by God because of his faithfulness, and despite what Job went through, he was exalted and blessed beyond measure. David was called by God, “a man after God’s own heart” because of his dedication, despite his faults and errors, and taken to a tremendous level of blessing. And finally, Jesus was so dedicated that God opened the heavens and declared “This is my son of whom I am well pleased” and His name was made the name above of all names. This wasn’t just because Jesus was the son of God, the Word of God, God in the flesh, but even more because despite the temptations of the flesh that He endured while on earth, He gave ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING to the glory and obedience of God. So now, again I ask you. What are you doing to stand out and show that you really DESERVE to be blessed to the level that you desire of God, and to prove that you REALLY DESERVE to be exalted and empowered to the level that you desire of God. Bless you as you go in renewed fervent passion for the will of God over your life, instead of your own.
