Influence

Have you ever noticed that when two people from different regions are around each other, one of them starts sounding like the other? An example is that if you put an average American in conversation with a Jamaican, you began to hear the American gaining a temporary accent, and saying things like “tree” instead of 3. Or, you put a southerner near a northerner and began hearing thingsl ike “cort-n-ly” instead of certainly. Typically the strongest accent influences the sound of the other. We usually find ourselves in a bad predicament in the body of Christ though, because the strength of the world begins to influence our sound, look, and behavior, whereas Jesus told us to be the light causing change on it, rather than it causing change back upon us. We get delivered, but then start to adjust our new faith standards to fit the image of the world rather than standing strong in the new image that God has given us of holiness, so that the world around us will begin to be changed. Instead of trying to turn rap into gospel, we make gospel sound gangster. Instead of speaking the Word of God to the world to make the world acceptable to God, we try to soften the Word of God to make God acceptable to the world. Remember brethren, we are not called to be like the world, but are called from the world to make the world like us in holiness acceptable unto God. Let is be the brightly shining light to illuminate the world around us, instead of being a light that gets dim as it enters the darkness.
