ElizaBeth,
I just want to say how much I admire your passion. I too have been involved at the rec level either as a cheerleader or coach for 28 years and I wouldn't trade any of them in for the world. Not every child that comes through our program becomes the world's best cheerleader, but they learn something from us. We teach them respect, humility, organization, time management, patience, self confidence and above all they know that each and every one of them is just as important to the success of our squad as the next one. Big or small, rich or poor, experienced or novice, talented or not, my job is to give these kids a place to be part of something good and safe.
I understand that try-outs are a necessary evil in some situations, but you can miss out some very good kids who just need a little confidence to shine. I'm willing to take that chance over & over again.
Keep up your good work. Sounds like your program is very lucky to have someone like you involved. |
