Message:   What are the reasons for the try-outs? Do you only have a limited number of uniforms and you can't take more girls than you can outfit? Or are you having try-outs to weed out the kids you don't think are good enough to be on the team? We are a rec program that has been around for over 30 years and we used to have try-outs because everyone in our small town wanted to cheer. We had 60+ girls come out at every level. We couldn't afford that many uniforms, we didn't have enough coaches and a lot of the local competitions limited the # of girls on a squad. Since then we have raised money to buy additional uniforms and now we take every child that registers to cheer. It's a testament to our coaches to put out successful teams every year given that we don't cut for competition and i feel that a rec division should be for teams that take as many kids as they can. If you are a try-out team to only take the best, u should compete in a different division and don't be intimidated by all-star, from what i've seen most rec teams are far superior to a lot of All-Star teams.
