Sylvia Anderson will be at the Telly Festival finale (19-22 October in oxford)

Oxfordshire to host Telly Festival finale.

Cult TV Weekender bows out with the aim of raising over £50,000 for charity.
Television appreciators from Australia, Germany, USA and all over the UK will be making their way to the Heythrop Park Hotel, Enstone, Chipping Norton in Oxfordshire over the weekend of 19-22 October. For 72 non-stop hours from Noon Friday until Noon Monday they will be celebrating the best in fictional television, while also raising money for the Cinema & Television Benevolent Fund. And you're invited to come and join the party!

The event, the 14th annual Cult TV Festival, will be the final convention from the Cult TV team in its present form. Over two dozen fans can say that they have attended every one of the events, and the uniqueness of its style and programme has attracted fans of the small screen to attend from right across the world. The only qualification to come along is that you have a television in your home, and that you like a bargain weekend break in luxurious surroundings (prices start from £199.00 per person for registration and three nights' evening meal, bed and breakfast)!

A Production Team of unpaid volunteers have maintained the event since its debut in 1994, and the policy to take the Festival all across England has seen it set up camp in places such as Hemsby, Torquay, Solihull, Caister, Southport, Weston-Super-Mare, Telford and Liverpool. Having already raised £48,000 over the years, organisers expect to easily break through the £50,000 grand total mark at their final event.

"This is the only event of its type in the World", notes Festival Director Alex J Geairns. "It's where the TV industry and its audience actually get to meet up and compare notes. It's a celebration of when programme makers push the boundaries, and venture away from playing safe. The attendees who come along are active in their appreciation - they don't just sit and watch the telly. They want to feel part of it, discuss their favourite series, discover the shows that other people are getting passionate about, and find out why. And, of course, they party all weekend long!"

The Festival found its new location, Heythrop Park, a combination of Stately Home and state-of-the-art conference centre, thanks to Hotelsmart, www.hotelsmart.co.uk who were able to take into account the very specific requirements that Cult TV has for its event and find the perfect venue for the occasion.
During the day there are celebrity guest interviews, TV production workshops where you can find out more about the behind-the-scenes skills used on the small screen, autograph sessions, rare screenings, and charity auctions of rare memorabilia. At night, there's the Cult TV Awards ceremony (with the winners voted for by attendees), spoof Game Shows, a Star Cabaret, and three different Theme Parties over the weekend.

Registrations are still available for the Cult TV Festival (please note that as it is a weekend break there are no day rates), so prospective attendees are recommended to get the Friday and Monday off work to get the best value from their experience. Accommodation is also available onsite, so you truly can make it a weekend away from it all!

Re: Sylvia Anderson will be at the Telly Festival finale (19-22 October in oxford)

Thanks for the information and invitation Simon.

I’ve been engrossed in the Cult TV site and see there is a very impressive list of guests and events. I’m really disappointed I can’t be there.

I’ve always wanted to attend a Cult TV Festival and would love to meet Sylvia Anderson especially. I’m even more disappointed that this will be the final convention from the Cult TV team in its present form. I was fortunate to meet, and have a brief chat with, Festival Director Alex J Geairns a couple of years ago, he’s a very pleasant chap.

Hopefully, I‘ll make it to a future Cult TV event, but, in the meantime, wish everyone a wonderful time.

Ce Ce
