To be honest - just a rehash of the 1991 book 'Yes, M'Lady' in a larger format. Not much new, several mistakes... page 32 is a clanger "Standing next to TB1" - it is TB3. Page 17 Sylvia seems to imply she thought up the idea of Supercar... "I had written some children's stories - and presented him (Lew Grade) with our next project: Supercar"...), then page 18 she states Reg Hill and Gerry thought it up. All a tad confusing, with statements repeated several times over various chapters. Some good photographic content, but absolute embarrassing recognition of Thunderbirds The Movie over 16 pages (Universal's biggest bomb in the last 12 years). Her views of the marriage break up are boring. Fans have heard it all (both sides). There's no points to be won by reading about it. Out of 10 - a 6.5. Dennis Nicholson |

Quick question - Dennis Have you actually seen the Thunderbirds Movie? If so, what did 'You' think of it? If not, don't knock it till you tried it... Has anyone else seen the movie - If so, what did you think about it? Looking forward to the discussion... Michael |

Michael hello, Yes, I have seen the movie. And yes, I am of the Thunderbirds 'old school'. So a tad bias towards the original format. But taking that into account, we all understand that the 2004 film was made for today's audiences, not old folks like me. But something went basically wrong with the Frake’s version because the box office returns for this film indicate the worldwide acceptance of the film is nothing short of horrendous! It was pulled from screens after less than two weeks in several countries. The consensus of opinion amongst the film-going public, film makers worldwide (and even diehard fans), is the following... They (Universal / Frake’s) strayed from the proven path. Like all remakes (well many anyway), folks find the need to have to 'improve' on an already proven formula, because they (seemingly) know best!!! “Hey! I’ve got a great idea! Let’s make Lady Penelope’s car a Ford instead of a Rolls Royce! No one will notice!” (This was a merchandising deal that Rolls Royce did not come to the party, but proves a point) – “Better still let’s make all the Thunderbird craft using CGI (Computer Graphics), no one will notice. Let’s add a few extra fins to Thunderbird 3 no one will notice”. Sadly many many movie goers did! After seeing the 2004 film (and I was eager to view it), I came away predicting it would be made available within six months on DVD, I was totally wrong, Universal rushed it onto DVD within four months of its initial release in an attempt to recoup some of their losses. Bandai (the official toy manufacturer for the film) also made a huge loss on their related toy sales, (just look at the cheap prices of this merchandise on eBay today, it practically cannot be ‘given away’). Michael I respect your thoughts on the film, and I am glad that you enjoyed it, but as the success Universal were hoping for, it was... to quote Parker ('The Cham-Cham') ..."a great disaster" (unquote). Apologies to Parker... The quote derives from 'Lord Parker's 'Oliday' (and I should know better!) Dennis |
