All Is Not Well At Juliot's Well

We have just returned from Juliot's Well after an Easter break and had to write to advise others what they are letting themselves in for.

We booked after seeing an ad in our local paper with a travel company.

We were even upgraded to a 'Superior' 8 berth caravan as they had none of the basic's left. My god, what a let down

As soon as we got into the caravan, we discovered the gas fire not working, no means of lighting the gas stove or oven, and a blown bulb in a table lamp.

Having complained, 'Phil' the service man arrived after about an hour and announced that all the appliances had just been serviced.........my arse !! and couldn't understand why they were not working. There were no compliance stickers on any appliance (gas or electric) that would indicate that they had been checked, serviced or recommissioned.

He handed us a box of matches to light the gas appliances (bearing in mind we had 2 small children) and discovered that one gas ring would not stay alight. He promised to return in the morning to fix the fire and the gas stove and bulb, but never did.

Other horrors included stained bedlinen, 100 year old flat pillows, matresses with springs almost sticking through, a towel rail that was almost hanging off the bathroom wall, an ancient microwave, a woefully insuffient combination boiler (no service stickers) that could barely generate water hot enough for washing up. The main entrance door to the caravan had rusted hinges, the TV wasn't tuned in (again no compliance sticker).

We also found pubic hair on the bathroom floor which was also very dirty. A dirty kitchen floor. Taps (including the shower) that would drip unless you wound them up extremely tight.

In our opinion, the caravan(s) were fit for scrapping. They were terribly old and the owners are trying to maximise revenue out of these old vans with the absolute minimum of outlay. Bearing in mind this is the very beginning of the summer season, and the prices that they charge, would it really have hurt to put new matresses and bed linen in.

Our caravan felt old, dirty and unhygenic.

The Restaurant - I was reluctant to eat at the complex, but one evening we had litle choice. The setting is OK, it looks clean and well presented but that's about all you can say.

My wife and I chose rack of ribs, and my eldest daughter a pizza. Simple enough wouldn't you think ? Our RIB (singular) arrived and was luke warm and tasted nothing like we have tasted before, the pizza arrived with just a thin layer of tomato sauce, and about 4 slices of peperroni. There was NO cheese. How could anyone serve a pizza without cheese.

To sum up. I would not recommend this complex ever, even to my worst enemy. It was horrible, dirty and the food was awful.

Just in case you are under the impression we are used to 5 star hotels and our expectations are too high, we have access to and regularly stay at a family owned caravan in Rockley Park in Poole. This complex is 100 times better than Juliot's Well in every respect.

Please, do yourself a favour, steer clear of Juliot's Well. Book elsewhere.
26/4/07 Update.
Kim Boundy resident owner (who won’t talk to us direct) claims that when we were checked in, the caravan had a digibox and a welcome folder containing details of the laundry service and other relevant information. NEITHER of these items were in the caravan when we unlocked it and entered for the first time.
We have just discovered that our deposit cheque of £50 has been stopped, which incidentally was post dated to a week after the end of our stay. It is illegal to post date cheques according to my bank. We had no prior notification of their intention to stop the cheque, no contact, no letters, no phone calls etc, NOTHING. We found out when my bank returned it. It turns out that they have accused us of stealing the digi box for the TV. This is the digi box that wasn’t even in the caravan when we arrived! The instruction to stop the cheque was made on the 18th April (2 days after it was dated and an amazing 9 DAYS after we checked out. I reckon they never had any intention of letting the cheque clear!
It it our opinion that these people (Kim & Phil) are running a scam by removing the digiboxes between changovers and charging the unwitting by keeping deposit cheques. They are the thieves (NOT US)
Please, please, please, DO NOT BOOK AT JULIOT’S WELL You have been warned
