Message:   Well done, congratulations on an excellent site. I started in the drawing office with Iain Havery as a 15 yr old trainee in 1969.

I look forward to contributing some stories and if I can dig them out some old snaps.

I sailed from Berwick on the Thelma M111, when she left to cross to Florida, as far as Portsmouth. I then stayed on her in Florida a couple of years later.

Berwick shipyard was the best time of my life, if it had remained open, I'd never have left. What a brilliant bunch of craftsmen. The quality produced in the conditions which they worked in, were extraordinary.

BTW. It took me a few minutes to think what they were. One of Iain's photos shows the offices, with a super structure of the RAF launch in front. (Drawing office was upstairs by the way) Next to the superstructure are some oblong frames stacked. Thee were the new launching cradles, before they were fitted with their running gear.

By the way, your Dad was a great bloke, the way he rode that windy drill, was like a motor bike! I used to live just up Prior Rd from you when we were kids.

Congratulations again.

Mike
