Welcome! This forum is about interpersonal manipulation (especially in its extreme forms) and also about how we are all the hero of our own stories, our own lives.

Highly manipulative relationships and groups include battering relationships, cults, and many others which are more subtle and therefore harder to spot. Being a healthy hero is centered on the opposite -- becoming as autonomous as possible and endorsing the autonomy of others.

Message:   Yup, you read that right! Adversity, even catastrophic experiences, can be used for our good...if we are willing to do so. In fact, researchers are showing that people who have gone through serious adversity can be happier than those who haven't!

It all depends on what we do with it. For myself, I know that if I hadn't met Cliff and been manipulated into his thrall, I would never have been forced to define myself as fully as I had to because of that experience. I would never have understood myself, or others, to the depth that I have come to know.

How have you benefited from the adversities you have faced? Have you become tougher? Stronger? More certain of who you are? Have you strengthened your relationships with your loved ones? Have you discovered aspects of yourself that you hadn't known were there before? Please share your own experiences.
