Welcome! This forum is about interpersonal manipulation (especially in its extreme forms) and also about how we are all the hero of our own stories, our own lives.

Highly manipulative relationships and groups include battering relationships, cults, and many others which are more subtle and therefore harder to spot. Being a healthy hero is centered on the opposite -- becoming as autonomous as possible and endorsing the autonomy of others.

Feel free to ask, to comment, and to share.  And please feel free to use a pen name! I know that a lot of times we want to keep our anonymity.

If you still have contact with your daughter, keep letting her know that you love her. Stop there. Don't continue on with the "but's" or the "I only want the best for you's." I know how badly you may want to say more, but the message she most needs to hear right now is that you love her and welcome her company.

You see, this man will almost certainly try to drive a wedge between you -- often times manipulators do this by saying things along the line of "they don't really love you," or "they don't really know you," sometimes with a "like I do" tacked on.

If you still have contact, you may want to ask your daughter to do a study course with you. Get her to feel that she is doing you a favor and that this is something you are doing for yourself. The course is "The Hero's Guide to..." and "The Hero's Workbook for Protection Against Harmful Relationships." After all, you probably want to know more about harmful, destructive relationships, too.

The "Protection Against Harmful Relationships" books are currently available as downloadable ebooks from Cattails Publishing. Go to http://www.cattailspublishing.com/hgphr.html for more info and to order.

Anything more I can do to help, just let me know.

Beth
