Sammy had surgery today at Duke. This surgery was for the tumor removal in her foot. She had what is called a Liz Frank cut done, which is basically a amputation of about 2/3 of the front of the foot. Dr. Brigman, her surgeon, said that all went extremely well. He is very confident that she will be able to walk just fine after all is healed. We also met with the prosthesis people & they said after she has fully healed we would start getting her fit up with some sort of a appliance. The main thing is Dr. Brigman felt that the cut margin looked real good. Next we will be talking to doctors about the upcoming radiation, but that will be in a week or so. Basically we are right on schedule with what needs to be done to beat this.
Sammy has been EXTREMELY strong. This little girl is 9 going on 19. I just can't believe how Sammy & all of the kids up here can go through all of this & still have such good spirits.
We wanted to thank everyone for everything that has been done for us. God bless you all. I will be posting in the near future. |
