Viruses vs. Superbugs
Viruses vs. Superbugs by Thomas Häusler, June 2006 On June 26 at about 7:00 p.m. I was finally able to get a much awaited copy of the book - Viruses vs. Superbugs - a solution to the antibiotic crisis? It turned out to be a fascinating and informative read and is highly recommended for anyone interested in the superbug crisis and the use of bacteriophages to mediate this crisis. I finished the book by June 29, 1:00 pm. Two thoughts kept going through my mind: 1. Phage therapy research - too little, too late and tooo.... slow! And 2. Superbugs are everybody’s business because superbugs make everybody their business! This book is a "must read" and I wish you happy reading! |

Amanda - I hope you will let us know what you think of the book when you read it. I also hope you will visit Haeusler's website for continuing updates http://www.bacteriophagetherapy.info Why do we choose to let patients die without making phage therapy available?????????? |

As I'm finishing-up the last chapter of this gripping and enlightening book, I now have reason to believe in the prospect of a future free of fear from critical care and possibly "terminal" infectious diseases, not only for my children and grandchildren, but for all of mankind, everywhere. Even though this may not be the "silver bullet" solution to the entire expanse of epidemyology's ill's now and/or into the future, it does represent a significant weapon in the arsenal of defense against the historical scourge of unrelenting maladies lurking within the microbial underworld! The caveat remains however that this will never come to fruition without a determined and sustained campaign to bring this methodology to the fore-front of medicine. Further-more, urgent action should be inacted to rescue and preserve not only the critical research accumulated in this field, but it is my personal contention that all those who have devoted and given so much of themselves to pioneer and sustain the field of phage treatment, such as the those in the desperate instutions of Soviet Georgia, be rewarded accordingly and provided the necessary compensation to continue the good work in comfort and security! The principal side benefits of this would quite probably be not only to keep this out of the hands of the unscrupulous, but also those solely motivated by profit at the expense of the needy. PS:For all medical technophobes, I'm not a medical professional or even related to the field, but believe me when I say that this book is not only an enlightening watershed on the subject of disease, treatment and prevention, but quite possibly the the biggest and best non-fiction sleeper not as yet on the bestseller list! You will be glad you opened the cover and got the bug! |

Dennis - glad to read your reaction to Viruses vs Superbugs. Can you explain why persons in positions of doing something about making phage therapy available as a treatment just don't care when they are given the same information???? Compliments of the season! Bill |
