Flying Lead Change wrapup
My three year old is soft in the face, takes correct lead left or right from a walk,Counter canters in a left or right circle with no problem, moves his hips over while countercantering, but bucks or kicks out sometime in a flying lead change. I don't want to over correct this a make him nervous of changing leads nor do I want this to become a habit in a show.Any ideas? Also on the leaking spins, I wrote back explaining how he drifts off while spinning and to correct it I was sending him back to the top of the circle of where I starting spinning and now I'm trying to spin him next to a fence where he can't drift off out of the spin. Thanks |

Re: Flying Lead Change wrapup
Regarding the lead change. When you change and the horse kicks you need to push very hard with your leg or spur. Do not kick. Just push the horse very very hard into the bridle. Sometimes horse kick because A. we have the a little too sucked back into our leg. B. Because maybe we use too little pressure and end up tickling the horse instead of giving him a solid cue. Regarding the spins it sounds like you are on the right track . As long as you know witch direction the horse is going and if he is doing this by going backwards or forwards you are on the right track. Also a horse will tend to leak out if on the opposite side of the spin he gets back too much and then the horse will have to rock forward in order to get himself unstuck. Dean Brown |
